OR Tambo organizations benefit from Anglo American Funds

THE Anglo American Chairmans Fund has approved a two-year grant of more than a million Rand to the Networking HIV/AIDS Community of South Africa (NACOSA) to conduct a capacity building programme for HIV and AIDS community-based organisations in the O R Tambo District in the Eastern Cape. The five organisations selected for the programme are Great Commission Divine Project and Sakhuluntu (Mthatha), Siyakhula (Ngqeleni), Sizanenguqu (Misty Mount) and Nompilo (Libode).

Educational officials arrested for fraud

Four Lusikisiki Department of Education officials were arrested and appeared in Lusikisiki magistrates court on charges of fraud on Wednesday last week. Unathi Gamnce (32), Siyasanga Keteyi (27), Nonkanyiso September (38) and Nontobeko Malane (45) were arrested after investigations in to tender fraud.

UMzimvubu municipality aims to upgrade road

The Umzimvumbu Local Municipality has put aside R50 million to upgrade and surface roads in both Mount Ayliff and Mount Frere. This was revealed in an announcement made in both towns on Monday, last week. There were more than 60 construction companies in contention for the work in both of the aforementioned towns. The roads that are going to be upgraded are the major routes to the police stations, hospitals and schools, in the respective towns.

Family depends only on food parcels

THE eight family members of Ntlekiseni locality near Mthatha are the most destitute in as much as that they are totally dependant on food parcels in order to avoid going to bed on an empty stomach. They are surrounded by modern houses while they live in a shanty town which is entrenched by unbearable poverty. As soon as you put your foot on the doorstep, you can smell the poverty inside this shack. No-Amen Sirayi (62) is staying in a shack which does not have even one window and there is no privacy.

Police urge peace in taxi industry

The South African Police Services (SAPS) has condemned the recent incident which followed the eruption of drama between two taxi associations. It is alleged that this incident led to two taxi drivers under the South African Border Taxi Alliance (SABTA) being shot and sustaining injuries while another one was stabbed near Ngqeleni junction recently. The SAPS appealed to them to the associations to sit down and iron out differences in order to make peace.
