After much deliberation by members of the IFP aligned South African democratic Students Movement (SADESMO) it was proposed that Prince Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi (Shenge) remains IFP president.
SADESMO’s decision of wanting Dr. Buthelezi to remain the party president comes at a time when IFP members are allegedly divided over the succession debate. In preparation for its general conference to take place 28-30 May, the party has dismissed various allegations of being divided into camps, with some members said to be rooting for Zululand District Mayor Zanele Magwaza-Msibi as the new party leader.
Earlier this week Magwaza Msibi urged party members and the nation as a whole to unite behind IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi. She said she had no ambition of being president.
