Poor Matatiele Residents
Dear Fever,
How often are they going to be misled by politicians? During the national elections they were told to vote ANC as Msholozi will fix the demarcation issue and take them back to KZN. Did he? What strategy will the ANC use in 2011 to make the people vote for them? An ANC group may rejoice in their victory by holding the judge’s hands but will they be able to hold our hands when we make the “X” for local elections? Or are they going to deal with the ballot boxes as they did with Mr Shiceka’s opinion poll in testing the views of Matatiele residents with regard to the demarcation issue? I guess they will get away with it, because they are the ruling party.
In the meantime health services are collapsing under the Eastern Cape. There are no emergency vehicles, no medication and no surgical stock to care for patients. Those who are happy to be in the Eastern Cape are happy to remain in the gravy train at the expense of the poor masses out there. The ANC has really disappointed us as Matiele residents.

Municipalities plan for tourism
Dear Fever.
For years on end now, we have been hearing from the local municipality great LED plans about tourism and job creation for Kokstad, these plans included massive structures around the dam to comunerate the importance of Adam Kok and the Griqua people. Other plans include birding trials around Franklin to show the people this special duck, the fluff tail hornbill duck, only found in two places in the world. We were promised jobs as bird guides and tour guides. Hundreds of thousands of rands were spent on black consultant groups to put together feasibility studies and plans. A tourism association was formed in Kokstad and funded to promote tourism in the area.
Suddenly all the promises have dissappeared like a shooting star out of the heavens. We are now going to change the town name because Adam Kok is no longer good enough, we are going to build low cost housing where the ducks live and chase them out so that a bunch of land grabbing squatters can get proper houses.
In the main street we are building a 5 star B&B to accommodate the tourists, B&Bs are being established left, right and centre in Kokstad to accommodate these tourists. What are we going to show them when they get here? The potholes in our streets, or are we going to take them to the municipal cinema so that they can watch the bold and the beautiful.
Come to your senses, Mr Municipal Manager, leave Kokstad and don´t chase away the ducks. Compromise, call our town KOK and FACU town then you will be satisfying everyone. For us having to watch the municipal circus and the bold and the beautiful everyday. Promote tourism slogan should also apply in Kokstad after all this is 2010 and our government has promised to create employment.
