The live-in girlfriend of a man accused of violating a corpse in one of Mthatha´s funeral parlours, Mlungisi Matyholo from Kambi Location, Mthatha, is insisting that her boyfriend of more than five years could never have raped anyone, let alone a dead body. Zandile Qina (31) from Ngqunge location, Mthatha is the mother of Matyholo´s 5-year-old daughter whom she has moved in with, for the past two years.
The news of her boyfriend having raped three corpses two weeks ago came as a terrible shock to Qina, but she is still backing Matyholo, even over this downfall. "He was always a humble person who opposed any violation of me and even people around and he always made sure that he attended church services, every Sunday, when he was off-duty”, said Qina who is working as a waitress in a caravan park in Vulindlela Heights.
She added that on the night before the incident, they were very happy as usual and went to sleep normally although they didn´t have sex because they had a few drinks but that could not have made him do what he is said to have done, since she is always available to satisfy him.
Zandile believes that this might be a plot against her man and for that, she will always back him even though she has not yet told their daughter why her father was arrested. She told Fever that the arrest of her man really traumatised her because since the incident happened, she suffers from constant headaches. “My worry is that he is a TB patient and as soon as he got affected, the TB erupts”, said Qina.
Zandile said she knows her man is somebody who is not into women. She is also confident that her man is in a state of good mind and he will never do what he is accused of. The news didn´t only shock Zandile but even those who were close to Matyholo cannot put him together with the said incident, because of the his behaviour.
Zwelenkosi Nombali runs a scrap yard in Southernwood and has known Matyholo for more than a year as he used to assist at the scrap yard where he would work night shift. He is still appalled by the accusations. "I still cannot believe he did this, as kind and humble as he was and he was not a ladies-man either”, he said. Nombali said he got the surprise of his life that Sunday morning because a few hours back ,Matyholo left him to work at the parlour and at about 08:00 am he got the news of this sad incident. "From the person I´ve got to know, Mafu (Matyholo) would never do such a thing. He was never troublesome and always opposed any kind of violence in his presence.
"I used to bicker with my wife but she is the one who always dimmed the fire”, said Nombani. Almost everybody at Eletronic Street Southernwood who talked to the Fever about the man was really perplexed with the accusations, as they knew Faku, as he is affectionately known, as an angel. Matyholo appeared in Mthatha Magistrate last Friday and his case was postponed to 3 March this year. The court asked him to look for an attorney because of the sensitivity of his case as in his first appearance, he stated that he will conduct his own defence. He has not pleaded guilty and remains in custody until the date of the case. |
