THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has dismissed allegations that some of its party members are exploiting Zululand District mayor Zanele Magwaza-Msibi.
And a redeployment of the IFP district mayor to the KZN Legislature, Pietermaritzburg, has been viewed by some as a ploy to halt her from taking control of the party.
Ivan Barnes, who was suspended in August 2008, told the Fever that the party is now degrading the work Magwaza-Msibi has done as mayor.
“Zanele is admired by members of the community. She has been an excellent mayor.
The reason they are degrading her work is because there is a fear that she is going to be the next president of the party if our current president accepts that he needs to rest and allow others to do the job. I don´t see how moving her to the KZN legislature is going to benefit the people of Zululand,” said Barnes.
However IFP National Organiser and Acting Chairperson of the Political Oversight Committee (POC) Albert Mncwango, has dismissed the allegations of abuse as ‘all lies’.
Mncwango said the party is promoting Magwaza-Msibi because she deserves it.
“She deserves a promotion, that´s why we’re making her a member of the KZN Legislature,” he said, adding the party has not yet discussed who will be mayor. Magwaza-Msibi was unable to comment due to illness.
