OPPOSTION Councillors once again stormed out of the uMhlathuze council chamber when the ANC put forward a motion to suspend the municipal manager, Tuesday.
And this time the speaker even felt the need to call for security to evict councillors for disrupting proceedings.
This is the third walkout of IFP, DA and FF+ councillors over the issue of Dr Tonie Heyneke, who was placed on special leave in September. The ANC run municipality brought forward a motion in the executive council to bring on disciplinary proceedings against Heyneke.
There were calls made by numerous councillors to remove the issue of municipal manager from council agendas pending the court case so that issues of service delivery could debated.
Heyneke is taking the municipality to the Durban Labour Court on 4 March for unfair dismissal.
The municipality wants to prove Heyneke is guilty of misconduct, thereby possibly absolving the cash strapped municipality of having to settle the remainder of his contract of more than R2-million.
