A NOTORIOUS uMhlathuze burglar was arrested after he killed two pedestrians when he went tearing through the streets of Ngwelezane while being chased by the SAPS, Tuesday.
According to SAPS spokesman, Capt Mbongeni Mdlalose, an SAPS patrol spotted Thando Mdletshe (24) on Ngwelezane Rd, Empangeni. Mdletshe is wanted for a string of house robberies in uMhlathuze.
“The police instructed Mdletshe, who was driving a VW Polo, to pull over but instead he sped off in the direction of Ngwelezane township. He hit a stationary taxi with a passenger inside then sped through the town and on two separate occasions hit two pedestrians, killing both of them instantaneously,” said Mdlalose.
He said Mdletshe then fled on foot, but with the help of the community the SAPS was able to arrest him.
Appearing in Empangeni Magistrate’s Court, Wednesday, Mdletshe was formally charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of murder. It was also noted he is linked to several house-breaking for which he will be separately charged.
