THE screening of the Disaster Exercise 2009, presented by the Director of Protection Services, Hibiscus Coast Municipality, was hosted by Ster Kinekor Shelly Beach on Wednesday 27 January.
The purpose of the screening was to do a SWOT analysis on the exercise and to make improvement for future disasters in the Ugu District as well as the Hibiscus Coast Municipality. The screening was well-attended by South Coast businessmen from a number of different industries.
BODIES and debris were scattered amongst raging fires at the St Michaels beach area on Thursday after a plane and helicopter crashed mid-air. Fortunately it was not real but a simulated version.
THE Hibiscus Coast Municipality is preparing for the upcoming festive season and aims to strictly enforce visible policing, roadblocks by traffic personnel, emergency services, life guard services at the beach, safety during beach events, aviation emergency rescue services and basic law enforcement.
Once again the Hibiscus Coast has felt the full might of the elements, and when this column was written, reports of widespread damage to roads, buildings and private property, and loss of life had been received.
HIBISCUS Coast Municipalities Senior Manager of Mayoralty and Communications, Mr Simon Soboyisa, says that there is nothing unusual about the Director of Health and Community services, Ms Sheryl Cwele, taking annual leave in the first or second week of December 2009 as she is to return to work on 28 January 2010.
HUNDREDS of South Coast residents took shelter at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre after Tuesday and Wednesday’s torrential downpour flooded their homes.
