HCM Director of Health and Community Services Sheryl Cwele, who maintains that she never knowingly participated in drug trafficking, will remain on unpaid leave while she is in jail.
Her bail application is to be considered in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday, and HCM Municipal Manager Sbu Mkhize has been requested by the HCM Executive Committee to handle the matter while the legal process takes its course.
Mr. Mkize reported to the Exco on the matter on Tuesday. He told the South Coast Fever that Exco respectfully noted the legal processes involved in the case, and left me to handle the matter in terms of labour legislation and her employment contract.
There are important issues in the employee-employer relationship that have to be dealt with with the utmost care, he said, to safeguard the interests of the council, the municipality and the tax payers. Unfortunately, he could not say anything more at this stage.
